He’s kinda old school and prefers hardware to ITB. Also he makes the tracks at first with samples, and then when done, he hires a company that perfectly recreates those samples and gives him full paper trail of reproduction so he doesn’t have to pay or clear that sample.

It's not really "unexpected" though. Plenty of electronic artists of that era were using trackers. Sandstorm was made on a tracker.
個人的には他のどのDAWよりもRenoise派。マウスが不要だから高速で柔軟な作曲ができるんだ。トラッカーの使い方を理解してたら、他のDAWはどれも遅く感じる。マウスベースのピアノロールは全然使えないよ。
Still prefer Renoise over any other DAW for fast easily flexible composition, in part because a mouse is not needed. If you understand how to use a tracker, no other type of DAW will ever be as fast to use. Mouse-based piano roll blows across the board.
